Hemlock Lumber is Fancy, Utility Wood
Today I discuss Hemlock, our featured species. This is a wood with an identity crisis. Its long been a mainstay in construction lumber yet has more refined purposes as a high end clear, CVG siding and cladding product. Now it has an even brighter future as a thermally modified option for both interior and exterior uses.
Featured Species: Hemlock
Hemlock is a several species that can be treated interchangeably. Eastern (Tsuga canadensis), Western (Tsuga heterophylla), and Mountain (Tsuaga mertensiana) all are nearly identical in working properties and impossible to tell apart without relying on regional sourcing. But also some similarities to Japanese Tsuga variants.
It is a softwood with a bright future in multiple applications and excellent working properties.
