Shannon's Lumber Industry Update · 74 – CD's Trees

Removing Trees and Turning them into Lumber

Caleb Darnell runs CD's Trees out of Hot Springs, AR.  He's an arborist removing trees for a variety of reasons but mostly on residential properties.  Since 2009 his company has been doing this work but more he was always sad to see these beautiful trees come down and have no further use but to be ground into mulch or sent to a landfill.  Recently Caleb bought a sawmill and has been building up a log yard inventory and starting to create a lumber yard.

In this episode we talk about his business, the types of trees he is seeing and his sawing process.   We even talk about some of the custom woodworking projects his customers ask him to take on using the trees removed from their property.  In short Caleb is one of the micro saw mills I have been speaking about on previous episodes that could be the future of the lumber industry.

If you are in the Arkansas area you may have just found a new lumber supplier or even a guy who can take down that tree in your yard and turn it into lumber.  Check out CD's Trees Facebook page and their Etsy Store.  Also make sure you follow them on Instagram  (@cdstrees) for some of that great high wire circus act stuff I was talking about on the show.
